Brick built house of around 1703 with pantile ridge roof. Historic home of the Bromhead family. 

Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead received the Victoria Cross for his part in the defence of Rorke's Drift 1879.  He was played by Michael Caine in the film "Zulu".

Thurlby's church has a rare dedication to St Germain.

Old-looking but mostly rebuilt in 1820. The north arcade may date from around 1300.

There are monuments to the Bromhead family - one of whom won the Victoria Cross at Rorkes Drift.

Built of rubble stone with heavy diagonal buttresses and large quoins in the tower and nave. Slated roof. Precious few external features of interest though a pleasant location.

East window in memory of Major Gonville Bromhead V.C. 24th Regiment.

"Major Gonville Bromhead VC (29 August 1845 - 9 February 1891) was a British Army officer and recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to members of the British armed forces.

He received the medal for his part in the defence of Rorke's Drift in January 1879 where a small British garrison of 139 soldiers successfully repulsed an assault by some 4,000 Zulu warriors.

Bromhead was portrayed by Michael Caine in the film Zulu, which depicted the battle"

Gravestone of Lieutenant-General Gonville Bromhead 1758-1822 created Baronet in 1806. Located immediately at the foot of the west tower.

His grandson Gonville Bromhead, youngest son of the third Baronet, received the Victoria Cross for his part in the defence of Rorke's Drift 1879.  He was played by Michael Caine in the film "Zulu".

A scheduled ancient monument. The Historic England listing states

".... The churchyard cross at Thurlby is a good example of the stepped base of a standing cross. Situated to the west of the tower, it is believed to stand in or near its original position. Limited disturbance of the area immediately surrounding the cross indicates that archaeological deposits relating to the monument's construction and use in this location are likely to survive intact. The cross has continued in use as a public monument and amenity from medieval times to the present day ..."
